Our focus is a productivity level of 1,800 Kgs/Ha of green coffee per year in a sustainable way. We also aim to have 75% of the coffee at premium grades of AA, AB and PB with an SCAA score of above 80 points.
All the above need to be achieved at the most cost efficient way.
In this model, CMS seconds a qualified agronomist to be in charge of the day to day operations at the farm level. In this setup there is a tripartite arrangement amongst the owner of the farm, a financial institution and CMS as a managing agent.
In this model our CMS agronomy consultants visit a farm on an agreed schedule with the owner and provide a technical report on areas of improvement/focus for implementation by the farm manager
In this model, CMS agronomy consultants in all coffee growing regions provide technical advisory services to the smallholder farmers using the following models;
This is done through associated companies namely
CMS is a licensed marketing agent and currently markets about 26% of the Kenyan production. Of this volume, 3,427MT (8% of the national volume) was sold directly at an average price of $ 360 per 50Kg bag (which is 77% above average auction price of $ 203 per 50Kg bag) in 2017/18.
CMS therefore sold over 46% of the total 7515MT sold directly in 2017/18 making us the largest direct sale marketer in Kenya for 10 years consistently. By selling coffees directly we have been able to create relationships between growers and the buyers
Financing continues to be a major challenge in coffee production in Kenya. To address this, CMS with support from shareholders has been able to provide an average of $ 8 Million per annum as advances to support production, picking and processing. These advances are recovered after sale of coffee.
To support the management service, CMS uses a real time customised Enterprise Resource Planning software for running both farm operations and financial records. Through the software, the clients are able to access all the financial and operational reports on a real time basis.
We have an ultra-modern coffee warehousing facility located at the Tatu City Coffee Park with a capacity to handle over 100,000 bags and to be expanded to handle more than 200,000 bags.
Using its pool of experts, CMS manages various projects throughout the coffee growing regions in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders including roasters, donor agencies and governments. These projects range from agronomy based support to small holder farmers, social, food security, landscape management, certification support etc.
CMS is licensed by the National Environmental Management Agency (NEMA) to undertake environmental Impact Assessment EIA and audits.
